The Naked Heart Foundation
will open a Children’s Play Tent in Krymsk, Southern Russia. Flash floods on
July 7th left more than 170 people dead and thousands homeless.
Krymsk, a town of 57,000 in the south of the Krasnodarski Krai, was worst
affected.
Having visited the region, the president of the
charity Natalia Vodianova decided to create a temporary day care centre where
families affected by the floods can bring their children to play and get their
minds off the tragedy.
Natalia Vodianova: While visiting local shelters I met many children who had lost all their
belongings in the floods. They were delighted with simple things like bubbles,
pencils and the few books we brought with us. Unlike their parents, kids have
no control over what is going on. If adults are kept busy cleaning up and
trying to fix things, children are left to watch them and feel helpless. The
Naked Heart Foundation's Children’s Play Tent will be a big space where
children can draw, paint, play and interact in a safe, comfortable and bright
environment.
The centre will be running for a minimum of
several months and will be staffed by both professional psychologists and play
specialists as well as volunteers.
The Naked Heart Foundation has been working
with children and their play needs for over 7 years.
